Darlene's Life Journal - Happy Birthday to my son!

Dec. 30th, 2003 07:18 pm Happy Birthday to my son!

How horrid I have been to cause 3 of my four children to be born after Christmas! I never have had money to give them much of anything the rest of the year, but December, even when I saved money all year long for the prospects of being able to buy gifts, bills suck it all away. My poor kids! Especially Dana. Today is HIS day. The only way we could do anything for him was to take him out to dinner on our wedding gift card (Thanks Cody!) and the coupons we got from signing up our birthdays.

See... I know what it feels like. My b-day being the 9th. Mom always asked if I wanted my sweater or coat for my birthday or Christmas. At least she had the money to do a little, howbeit the practical rather than fun gifts. I always felt left out as my brother born in August would get scuba gear, etc. Not fair!  I was the family fish!

Ah, but, I am sure that this is what I get. My Karma is to not afford anything for my kids for their b-days and watch other parents giving bundles of presents and parties for their kids, and then their Christmases were always huge! I should have been more grateful for the sweater or coat.

I hope each of my children find their way to success in every way so that they don't HAVE to deprive their children or themselves.

Happy birthday to Dana!!

My birthday is January 18, so it's a similar thing. It can suck but one thing that I'm happy about is that the older my children get the less they care about gifts (their birthdays are in March, not too bad).

But. I tell them, over and over, that I reserve the right to give them gifts at any time of the year, no occasion needed. At least it makes *me* feel good.

Hi Judith!
Well, Dana's birthday was ok, he isn't feeling well. His younger brother was quite giving... the rest of us are fighting the flu, thanks to him. Dana didn't even feel like finishing his dinner nor the dessert the waiter and waitresses brought to him with the happy b-song! So we took him to the store and got him Niquil among other feel good med he likes. I can't take those. I try to use herbs and vitamins. So far I seem to be creating a hostile environment for the germs! ;)

Laura's b-day is next, the 7th and Clark's is the 11th. Then we can rest for a few couple months.

Meanwhile, I do buy things for the kids often as I can, when the present presents itself, if you know what I mean!

Hope your having a great Holiday!

Poor baby! Sick on his birthday.

Christmas with the fam (children and grandchild) was good, and I am rather looking forward to having a quiet New Year's Day, maybe going for a drive up the coast a bit. So yes, nice holiday. I hope yours is too!! In spite of illnesses. I'm waiting to get sick myself. Everyone around me has been trying to infect me.

Aw, Happy Birthday to the little one. My youngest grandson was born 2 days after Christmas. I made sure that I got him presents for Christmas and his birthday at the same time. I had a neice that was born on Christmas day, and she always got robbed....

I'm betting that he enjoyed the day anyway though didn't he?

No, not so little!

Dana is 29 now! My children are grown. He is the oldest but possibly the shortest. Laura is my youngest at nearly 22. No grand-kids yet. Many of my friends and relatives (even the cousins I used to babysit) have grand-children. I'd prefer they would all move out before they start that!

I guess we would do what needed to be done if it happened while they are here, but my preference is that they would do their parenting in their own homes.

Congrats about your grand-babies! :)

By the way. I still call my 29 year old by his life long childhood nick name... Randy Sue. Don't ask me why. Maybe because it just gets his goat, maybe because I can... and get away with it..*grin*

Randy is a boy by the way...

Aren't we AWFUL!! I try very hard not to call my daughter all those cute names. She gets very mad at me. When she was little she got a baby beans doll. It was a little boy doll. She hadn't liked playing with dolls before then; her elder siblings are boys. She took care of baby beans so sweetly. When it was time to go somewhere she'd pack him up with her stuff. I began to call her Laura-Bean which grew to Beaner. I never thought of it as something I shouldn't say. My association was with her and her doll. But she will get really mad if I let it slip out!

Sorry Laura! ALL YOU FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF LAURA DO NOT USE THIS AGAINST US!!!!

you are such a great mom.

but now you need to tell me what you want as a wedding gift, cause if you and chris don't use it as a couple it doesn't count.

that was a nice try though!!!

seriously, i wanted to get you something special i just didn't know what to get at the time. now that i have a second chance...do you have any suggestions???

You weren't supposed to see it! We had fun and were very glad to have it! Dana says "Thank you!" And we all enjoyed our dinner. It was a great gift!!!
